An Historic Meeting With China
The 4th World Summit on Internet and Multimedia will be held in
Beijing, China, from October 18 to 20, 2004. The meeting motto will
be: “Multimedia and the Digital Future: Linking China and the World.”
It will be your chance to meet chinese multimedia professionals and
to take the measure of their dynamism. The lectures, the seminars and
the trade show will take place in a brand new Convention Centre to be
inaugurated during this event!
Why China ?
China was chosen among all the possible candidates for this 4th
World Summit because of the awesome changes that currently reshape this
country. It's not only the most populated state in the world, with over
1,3 billion inhabitants; it also raised itself to the first rank among
manufacturing nations in less than 10 years. China's purchasing power
is said to currently be the 2nd in the world.
As far as the multimedia industry is concerned, China moves fast.. In
2007, for instance, there will be 500 millions mobile phones in the
country. Wi-Fi technology also thrives faster in China than anywhere
else. The local know how in computer animation is also impressive. China
is therefore both a fantastic market and an attractive business partner.
The
Conferences
The World Summit will consist of three different types of events:
lectures, a trade show and professional seminars. The lectures, presented
either as debates or keynote speeches, will gather 50 or so international
level experts, chosen from the member associations, academia and the
many industrial specialities.
The Trade Show, a premiere in the
World Summits history, will offer the exhibitors the choice of either
exposing alone, or as part of a national pavilion or an industrial specialty.
In parallel to the trade show, seminars will allow the interested exhibitors
to present their products or to have training sessions for their products
to either all visitors or just a targeted group.
The three previous World Summits organized by the
International Federation of Multimedia Associations (FIAM) were held
in Montréal, Canada (1999), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (2001)
and Montreux, Switzerland (2002).

The Logo
The @ shaped dragon symbolizes Internet, of course, but also China herself,
as the Chinese often refer to themselves as the descendants of the dragon.
It is also meant to remind us that new technologies are influenced by
the long chinese tradition. The red color is also symbolic, as it is
considered to be happy and lucky. |
