International Federation of Multimedia Associations (FIAM) was established in Montréal, Canada, Québec in 1997, as a non-profit organization, in partnerships with Canada Economic Development, the Government of Québec (Ministère de la Culture et des Communications, Ministrère d’État aux Affaires Municipales et à la Métropole, Ministrère des Relations internationales, Direction de l’autoroute de l’information-Conseil du Trésor) and Montréal International (MI).
FIAM hosted the International Summit on Highways and Multimedia in Montreal, Canada in 1999, supported by Canada Economic Development, the Government of Québec, Montréal International (MI), etc.
FIAM hosted the 2nd International Summit on Internet & Multimedia in Adu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2001 (April 22nd -25th ), under the patronage of H.H. Shekh Sulton Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister of UAE, sponsored by Etisalat, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Union National Bank, in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
FIAM hosted the 3rd World Summit on Internet and Multimedia (WSIM 2002) in Montreau, Switzerland in 2002 (October 8th -11th), founded and organized by Swiss Multimedia Association (SMA). International Telecommunication Union (ITU) chose the WSIM 2002 as preparatory to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva.
FIAM hosted the 4th WSIM in Beijing, China in 2004 (October 18th -20th), supported by the Beijing Municipal Government, organized by Beijing Xuanwu District Government, in cooperation with China Council for the promotion of International Trade Beijing Sub-council (CCPIT Beijing), Beijing Multimedia Industry Association (BMIA), Shanghai Multimedia Industry Association (SMIA), Beijing All Media and Culture Group.
FIAM was recognized as a NGO in Special Consultative Status with United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) in 2004.
FIAM created the Asia-Pacific Office in Shanghai Multimedia Industry Building (SMIB), located at Shanghai Multimedia Industrialization Base (SMIB) in 2005, supported by the Shanghai Multimedia Valley Lead Group Office.
FIAM established the partnership with the International Network Committee on Multimedia and Digital Industry, World China Network Association (INCMDI-WCNA) in 2006.
FIAM was invited to promote the international opportunities and networks on new media for the China-India-Brazil-Africa Trade and Investment Flows, hosted by Commonwealth Business Council (CBC), in Cape Town, South Africa in 2007.
FIAM was an international supporting organization for the 3rd International Cultural Industry Forum (ICI Forum) in Beijing, hosted by the Cultural Research Centre of China Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the International Network Committee on Multimedia and Digital Industry, World China Network Association (INCMDI-WCNA).
